Calla Lilies
Although not considered true lilies, the calla lily is an extraordinary flower. This beautiful plant, available in a multitude of colors, is ideal for use in beds and borders. You can also grow calla lilies in containers, either outdoors or in a sunny window as houseplants. These plants do not generally require too much attention. Proper planting and location are about the only important things to consider when growing calla lilies. Care of calla lilies requires that they be planted in loose, well-drained soil. Choosing to grow calla lilies in the garden or as houseplants is a great way to add color to any area.
Canna Lilies
The canna lily plant has tropical-like foliage and large flowers that resemble that of iris. Canna lilies are low maintenance and easy to grow, and both their flowers and foliage offer long-lasting color in the garden. Cannas like moist conditions, but will tolerate nearly any well-draining soil that is either neutral or slightly acidic. They appreciate bog-like conditions as well. When growing cannas in the garden, placing them in mixed borders or group plantings will offer the most dramatic effect.
