Lewisia (Bitterroot)

Picture
It is always hard to find durable plants that favor punishing conditions in sandy or rocky soils. Lewisia is a gorgeous little plant perfect for such areas. Lewisia is a member of the Portulaca family, known for the attractive fleshy green leaves and ease of care common to members of this group. The blooming and growing seasons of many Lewisias is prolonged if given some afternoon shade.  Although their fleshy leaves make them drought tolerant, they can be watered freely during the growing season.

Lewisia, Elise
Elise series of Lewisia have masses of starry flowers in a range of fruity colours which adorn slender stems above neat rosettes of fleshy leaves. Tolerating heat and drought well, Elise is also perfectly happy with cooler temperatures.
