Cotoneaster
The Cotoneaster is a dense growing shrub that looks its best in full sun conditions though it is tolerant of partial shade. This shrub achieves a height of 8-10 ft. with a spread of 4-5 ft. The Cotoneaster has a small insignificant pink flower that matures to a dark purple-black fruit in late summer. This fruit is rarely ever a mess and is often an attractant for birds. The foliage presents a tremendous show in the fall, taking on colors of yellow to orange to red. The colors tend to be the most vibrant in specimens planted in full sun conditions.
HedgeHedge Cotoneasters make great screening hedges as it takes to pruning very well. It has clusters of pink flowers in mid-spring with dark green foliage throughout the season. The glossy oval leaves turn an outstanding scarlet in the fall.
